Couples therapy and marriage counseling in Newport Beach

Couples work is a large part of what happens at this office. People look for a marriage counselor when the arguing has become a loop, when something has been broken and neither of you is sure it can be talked about, or when the house has simply gone quiet. You do not both need to be certain — plenty of couples start with one person more convinced than the other.

We see unmarried partners on the same basis, so whether you call it couples counseling, couples therapy or marriage counseling, it is the same work. Some couples come before the wedding rather than after something goes wrong, and premarital counseling is a normal reason to book. Others arrive after infidelity, wanting to know whether the marriage can survive it before deciding anything — that question is a starting point here, not something you need an answer to first.

Individual therapy: anxiety, depression and trauma

We also see people one to one. Therapy for anxiety is the most common reason people call — the kind that will not settle, that has started deciding what you say yes to. A depression therapist here will work on the practical shape of a week as much as on how you feel about it. Grief, a job that ended, and trauma that has surfaced years later all belong here too.

How the work is actually done

Our therapists work in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT therapy for feelings that arrive at full volume, and EMDR for trauma — if you are looking specifically for an EMDR therapist, say so at intake and we will match you with one. Which approach fits is a conversation rather than something decided before you walk in. Sessions are weekly to begin with, and there is no minimum commitment.

Getting here

If you are looking for a therapist in Newport Beach, the office sits by the Upper Newport Bay at 1100 Quail St, a few minutes from Fashion Island and John Wayne Airport. That makes it a straightforward drive from Irvine, Costa Mesa and Corona del Mar as well as Newport itself — people who search for a therapist in Irvine often end up here simply because it is closer than it looks. Telehealth is available anywhere in California if getting across town is the thing standing in your way.
