Therapists in Orange County, CA

ACT Family Counseling has three Orange County offices — two in Huntington Beach and one in Newport Beach — plus telehealth anywhere in California. If you are looking for a therapist in Orange County for yourself, your marriage or your family, you can be seen at any of them. People come to us from Irvine, Costa Mesa, Corona del Mar and Westminster as well as the three cities we sit in.

Marriage counseling and couples therapy in Orange County

Couples work is a large part of what we do. People look for a marriage counselor when the arguing has become a loop, when something has been broken and neither of you is sure it can be talked about, or when the house has simply gone quiet.

You do not both need to be certain — plenty of couples start with one person more convinced than the other. We also see people individually for relationship difficulties when a partner will not attend. Marriage counseling and couples counseling for unmarried partners work the same way, and premarital counseling before the wedding is a normal reason to book rather than waiting for something to go wrong.

As well as couples work we see people one to one. Therapy for anxiety is the single most common reason people call, along with depression, grief, a job that ended, and trauma that has surfaced years later. With younger clients it is usually the other half of that — a teenager who has stopped talking, school refusal, a family that has run out of ways to ask. Teenager therapy and counseling teens is concentrated at our Beach Boulevard office, where an ADHD therapist also works with the part that comes after a diagnosis.

You do not need a diagnosis to make an appointment, and you do not need to have worked out what the problem is before you arrive.

Our three offices

If none is convenient, telehealth is available anywhere in California, which for a lot of families is the difference between starting and postponing.

How the work is actually done

Across all three offices our therapists work in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), DBT therapy, play therapy with younger children, and EMDR for trauma — if you are looking specifically for an EMDR therapist, say so at intake and we will match you with one. Which approach fits is a conversation rather than something decided before you arrive. Sessions are weekly to begin with and there is no minimum commitment.
